Switzers – November 19, 2011

So, these blog posts may be super delayed, but my actual writeups tend to be done a lot closer to the date, or usually at least within, say, a year, leading me to be able to remember some actual pertinent details. In this case, however, I got to this on my list of things to write about, and discovered that I had never written word one about this experience. It had a line in the file, but no actual text. Whoops. So, well, I went to the pictures from the trip, and jotted some notes, which came out to basically only a paragraph. So really, let’s just say that we went for a hike from Switzer Picnic Area down towards Bear Canyon, and had a nice down and back hike, with the return precipitated by the weather turning overcast and verging on cold (I know, I know, us Southern California weak humans…whatever. We get to hike all year round. I’ll take it.)

What’s there? What’s there? What’s there?

Let’s, yes?

Mammoth October 2011

OK – I made a least one post a month in 2014, and I’m going to try to do the same in 2015. So, to kick that off, I will begin by getting one in by the skin of my teeth! Yay! The winter progresses. We went to Wyoming for a week, did some skiing, a hair of snowshoeing, saw some family, and took a really amazing snowcoach tour into Yellowstone. Highly recommended. 3+ years ago, however….we took a drive up to go try and check out some fall leaves in Mammoth and Yosemite. Come and check it out!

Geisha Coffee Cupping – September 17, 2011

Mere hours to December…I could be lazy, not post this, and count it as my December post, but I’m not going to! Because it’s so short as is. Anyway. Life continues. There will be a good bit of December travel, possibly a bit crazy making, but overall, I think it will be some good visiting time. New sofa arrived, which raises the question of what to do with the old one. We had the fairly obvious idea of putting it in another room, but it turns out it simply does not fit through any of our normal doorways. Like, really not. The downstairs main rooms have some bigger entryways, so it wasn’t an issue, but …yeah, no. Of course, being un-careful in this instance, we didn’t choose to measure the doorways until after we wrestled that thing upstairs, so now it is, ah, overfilling the landing. Nothing to see here, move along. Anyway! This intro par got longer than anticipated. Below the cut – some brief notes and a few photos of a coffee cupping we went to in September 2011!

Mammoth , Devils Postpile, and Flying Home – September 2011

Hey, happy almost Thanksgiving guys. We avoided the crazy Buffalo snow, mostly by not actually living in Buffalo, and the couple inches we did get are now gone, and it looks like fall again. But 2014 isn’t so interesting, and herein let me jump to writing about 2011….

After crashing my car in Mammoth, I ended up having a day to spend there, so I went and checked out Devil’s Postpile. All in all, it was pretty awesome, and I would highly recommend people to spend some time down there. After that, I flew home, which was a short but gorgeous flight back to LA.

Yosemite to Mammoth – September 2011 – An Interlude

Hey! We’ve got new basement windows. I’m oddly delighted for something so mundane. BRING IT ON WINTER. Actually…no, I am going to have to walk that back. I would much rather hunker down in Southern California from November to May, but well, since that doesn’t seem to be an option this year, at least I can have twice as many panes, and far few window cracks (and no tape based repairs) on our basement windows this year. Oorah. It’s the little things.

Anyway, where we were? Ah, right, I had just finished up a quick backpacking trip to Ten Lake in Yosemite, and was more or less back at my car…

Leaving, alas.

Let’s move along, shall we?

Yosemite + Ten Lakes – September 2011

Hey! Happy Halloween. It’s a good Friday to finish up a post, right? We had maybe 15-20 trick or treaters tonight – I don’t know if being on the corner and thus “far” from the bulk of the houses, or it simply being a drizzly evening kept the kids away, but who knows. Next year I’m pondering lighting the heck out of the house…or at least the walkways. Might as well have fun occasionally. Other than that…yup. Leaves and weather falling. Travelling a bit coming up in December. Getting some new basement windows next week. Oohyah! I mean, it’s good, I guess.

Anyway! As I say, let’s talk about a trip I took, way way way back when, in September 2011…..

I drove up to Yosemite, did a brief backpack, drove back through Mammoth, had a, well, diversion, checked out Devils Postpile, and then eventually got myself home. This is the trip up to Yosemite, and the backpacking part of the trip.

From certain angles, I am slightly taller than Half Dome… (ok, this was *after* the backpack, but whatever)

And on that bombshell…
