hikes not *quite* in the city

went hiking on sunday. my hiking notes file says:
10.19.2003 Echo Mountain
Hike 24 in Trails of the Angeles went with
Colette, Arturo, plus some friends of hers from her
department
5 miles round trip, 1400′ elevation gain
switchbacks all the way up
nice chaparral, there are ruins of a hotel
and the old mt lowe railroad at the top.
very hot, peak at 3207′
went up via sam merrill
really easy to get there, just drive up to the top of lake, park, and you are at the trailhead.
um, photo from the hike (this immediately made me think of myst…..)
